INSECT FACTORY is music from Washington DC area musician Jeff Barsky. Insect Factory focuses on texture and mood, building layers of dense sounds that slowly evolve into hypnotic and atmospheric drones.
Since the 90's, Barsky has played in bands and improvisational collectives, and he has performed all over the U.S., in Canada, throughout Europe, and Japan. He has shared the stage with the likes of Nels Cline, Lungfish, and Carla Bozulich. He has also performed at the Suoni Per Il Popolo festival in Montreal, Terrastock 7 in Louisville, KY, and D.C.’s Sonic Circuits,
Queering Sound, and Fringe Festivals.
Among notable releases, Insect Factory released a split 7" with RST (New Zealand) and the Melodies from a Dead Radio LP (Fabrica/Insectfields) in early 2012, both which received
critical acclaim. Insect Factory has released many short run cassettes and CDs (available digitally) and has a new LP scheduled for release in August, 2016.
Some of Barsky’s current projects include the Arlington based post-punk-improv band Plums, Kohoutek (Philadelphia based psych-improv), and Sunset to the Sea, a duo with guitarist Chris
Brokaw.

“Barsky sculpts a beautiful aural “rainbow in curved air” that reminds me of some of the finest minimalists and static drone-drifters” - Terrascope

“…densely layered loops, planes of static standing tall like a gigantic backscratcher of audio, improvised melodies clamoring over drones like they’re peaks in a mountain range… It’s lovely, monolithic, moving, fluid and entirely lovely.” – Tiny Mix Tapes

“Music that evokes the feel of a plane ride through the clouds and the surreal world of dreams…Insect Factory's music grows with repeated listens.” - The Wire

“…woozy and warbly, wheezing melodies, layered textures, softly distorted and dreamily chaotic.” – Aquarius Records
